The map will normally open at the next walk on the WOW program but as
it displays a limited number of walks this will not always be possible. You
may be able to select individual walks to display by
selecting them at the map legend or by zooming out and selecting the
geographical area. The map legend is opened and closed by
clicking on the small box to the left of the title logo or by clicking on one of
the position markers. Yellow position markers contain up to 10 photographs.
Click on the photos and they will be displayed full size.
The map displays on phones but works better on tablets or computers.
Mapping and photos by Google MyMaps. Imagery by TerraMetrics and others acknowledged within the map. Tracks and some waypoints generated with OziExplorer.
About WOW - Walking on Wednesday.
Walking on Wednesday was formed in 1996 as part of the Life Be
in It program...( remember Norm??) and was
sponsored by the State Government till 2019 when they decided to cancel the
program. We had a group of walkers who wanted to continue so we approached the
Southern Highlands Bushwalkers committee and they accepted us as a
subsidiary.
We walk 40 different walks each year between March and
November but the distinction is we are social walkers. We walk only 4-6 km
generally each week, always on a trail or path and have a picnic lunch
together afterwards, or a bbq once a month. Once a term we go for a pub lunch
after our walk.
We have 14 different walk leaders who check out the walk beforehand
and lead the walk on the day. We have 50 plus members who receive a weekly email
on a Sunday reminding members of the walk and the conditions. So we are not
really looking for new members. We usually walk with between 20-30 walkers. But
we are happy to have the occasional visitor
from SHB and we have enjoyed 3 or 4 visitors as well as the helpful
suggestions of walks from David McFarlane.
If SHB members want to join us for
a walk just call Glen Vandine on
